Janská: Hotels and Accommodation

Janská combines sites of remembrance with underground history and distinctive sandstone landscapes. This connection is particularly evident in the Kamenice Valley and in Rabštejn.

Remembrance and History

An external camp of the Flossenbürg concentration camp was established in the Kamenice Valley in 1944. At the former camp site in Rabštejn, the ruins of the barracks foundations and preserved foundations of the SS guardhouse remain. At a memorial at the former camp site in Rabštejn, there is a monument bearing the inscription “OBĚTEM FAŠISMU 1939-1945”.

Between August 1944 and April 1945, prisoners excavated approximately 17,500 m² of underground space in the rock massif of the Kamenice Valley. After being closed for sixty years, part of the underground facilities in Rabštejn is once again accessible to the public; there is currently an exhibition on the history of Rabštejn there. The underground Rabštejn complex can be reached by train via the “Veselé pod Rabštejnem” railway station; from there, it is 1 km on foot.

Nature

A small eastern part of the Maiberg Nature Reserve near Filipov extends into the cadastral area of Janská. Sojčí rokle is home to a significant population of vláskatce tajemného (Trichomanes speciosum). Sojčí rokle is also a valuable geomorphological sandstone gorge formation.

On Site

The Rabštejnské údolí is suitable for walking and cycling and extends across the cadastral areas of Česká Kamenice and Janská. Farmers’ markets and flea markets take place in Janská on every third Saturday of the month. The Municipality of Janská operates an open-air cinema in summer.
