Lobendava: Hotels and Accommodation

Lobendava lies in a picturesque valley of the Šluknov Promontory on the Luční potok stream, near the German border. One of the town’s defining landmarks is the Baroque Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary, built between 1709 and 1712. When it was restored after the fire of 1790, its Baroque appearance was preserved.

Culture and History

The protected Baroque Chapel of Saint Anne stands on Annaberg. It was built between 1775 and 1777 for a Late Gothic statue of Saint Anne. Lobendava is also home to a protected Baroque parish house with an agricultural section dating from the 18th century. Another protected landmark is the Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from 1746. It stands on a two-storey triangular pedestal decorated with reliefs depicting scenes from the saint’s life, including his fall from the bridge, his torture, and the queen’s confession.

In the Severní district stands the protected Hilgersdorfský Mill, a Neoclassical former mill complex from the early 19th century. On the summit of the hill of the same name, about 2 kilometres northeast of Lobendava, stands the Chapel of Saint Joachim. Stations of the Cross surround it; the chapel complex was completely restored in 2017.

The pilgrimage complex on Anenský vrch includes an enclosed Garden of Gethsemane with statues integrated into the landscape. The Stations of the Cross there consist of fourteen stations: thirteen are designed as niche chapels, while the fourteenth is the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre. Every year, a pilgrimage site in Lobendava becomes the destination of pilgrims on the Sunday closest to 26 July.

Historical Connections

Lobendava lies on the historic “Imperial Road”, also known as the “Dresden Road”. It was originally built as an important connection between Vienna and Dresden. A branch of this historic road led from Lobendava to Dolní Poustevna and Sebnitz.

Routes through Severní and Lobendava

A hiking route begins in the centre of Lobendava at a junction of the green and blue trails. Following the green trail, it runs 2 kilometres north to Severní. A cycling route runs through the Severní district to Lobendava and onwards to the Lobendava–Langburkersdorf border crossing.

A marked geographical point is located in the Severní district and is frequently visited by walkers and cyclists. The northernmost point is marked by a monumental granite obelisk.
