Starý Šachov: Hotels and Accommodation

Starý Šachov lies in the valley of the Ploučnice River at an altitude of 235 m; the municipality includes the cadastral areas of Starý Šachov and Malý Šachov. The Ploučnice River flows through the village and is an important natural feature of the entire area. The Cyklostezka Ploučnice cycle path No. 15 also passes through Starý Šachov, connecting the Ústecký and Liberecký Regions.

Nature

Starý Šachov lies in the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area. The municipality is among those mentioned in connection with the Kamenná hůra Nature Reserve; the protected area concerns the cadastral areas of Malý Šachov, Merboltice and Valkeřice.

The Kamenná hůra Nature Reserve is open to the public. On the forested massif of the 519 m-high Kamenec, it features very extensive accumulations of coarse block scree. The protected features include basalt scree, permanent ice holes, rare mosses, and plant and animal communities of the scree slopes and scree forests. A marked hiking trail with views of the scree field runs through the protected area.

The Dolní Ploučnice Natura 2000 site is spatially connected with Starý Šachov and includes the Starý Šachov cadastral area. It protects habitats and occurrences of the fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina), salmon (Salmo salar) and Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra).

Cycling and Hiking

The landscape around Starý Šachov offers opportunities for hiking, cycling and recreation in nature. A 43 km cycling tour along the Cyklostezka Ploučnice runs via Děčín, Malá Veleň, Benešov nad Ploučnicí, Starý Šachov, Dolní Police and Horní Police, returning to Děčín. The tour is moderately difficult and includes 455 m of ascent and 455 m of descent.

Transport Connections

Starý Šachov is connected to the Děčín–Benešov nad Ploučnicí–Česká Lípa railway line, which provides connections with the surrounding towns and cities.

Culture

The traditional Burning of the Witches event takes place in Starý Šachov on 30 April 2026. At 5:30 p.m., a lantern procession to the sports field begins at the shop; after 6:00 p.m., a witch bonfire is lit there.

For 30 May 2026, a Children's Day with horses, firefighters, quad bikes and other attractions, as well as refreshments for children, was announced at the Starý Šachov sports field from 2 p.m.
