Horní Rožínka lies in a hilly landscape on a plateau at an altitude of about 528 metres above sea level.
Culture and history
The first written mention of Horní Rožínka dates from 1366. The village was formerly known as Opatská Roženka, and occasionally simply as Roženka, and remained in the possession of Žďár Monastery until 1784.
A prominent architectural monument is the shingle-roofed belfry with the Chapel of the Virgin Mary on the ground floor. It dates from the 19th century and was renovated in 1998. As a historical architectural monument, the historic belfry is registered under catalogue number 1000141257.
The history of the village is also connected with several notable figures. The prominent Czech economist Jan Koloušek was born in Horní Rožínka, Moravia, on 15 December 1859. Sylvestr Blaha later headed the military office of President T. G. Masaryk and also held this position under President Edvard Beneš. A commemorative plaque dedicated to Sylvestr Blaha is located on the corner of farmhouse No. 3 opposite the chapel in Horní Rožínka.
The local history of community life also includes the fact that the Horní Rožínka Volunteer Fire Brigade traditionally held summer outings under the chestnut trees.
