Obyčtov is home to the Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary, a protected cultural monument registered under the ÚSKP registration number 34105/7-4317.

Culture

The Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was completed in 1735 based on a design by Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel. It has an unusual single-nave floor plan; its polygonal structure with four rectangular chapel extensions resembles the body of a turtle.

Pilgrimages are a tradition in Obyčtov. The pilgrimage tradition includes one pilgrimage associated with the Visitation of the Virgin Mary and a second associated with the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. Obyčtov is also home to the Rychta, a multi-storey building dating from the mid-18th century.

Since 2010, a giant turtle by the sculptor Michal Olšiak has stood in a park by the river in Obyčtov.

Landscape

Obyčtov lies in the Bítešská vrchovina uplands, in a picturesque valley of the Oslava River. The mountains of Dědkovská hora, Rosička and Blažkov are located in the surroundings of Obyčtov. Further afield in the region of Obyčtov lies Mount Světka.

Paths and Transport

The concrete statue Želva stands in the park on the banks of the Oslava River in Obyčtov, along a red-marked hiking trail. The nearby Ostrov nad Oslavou railway station is integrated into the integrated transport system.
