Ostrov: Hotels and Accommodation
Ostrov lies in a landscape shaped by the Sázava, the Nezdínský potok stream and woodland areas. A registered significant landscape feature is VKP 62 – Meze u Ostrova, a system of field margins with naturally regenerated woody vegetation. In the northern part of the cadastral area is the natural formation “Kamenné stádo”. Local legend tells of a shepherd and a flock that were turned to stone; according to the legend, the quartz stones associated with “Kamenné stádo” are still scattered today across the pasture and along the edge of the forest.
Cycling
Cycle route No. 4156 runs over asphalt as well as paved and unpaved surfaces and is suitable for mountain bikes and trekking bikes. It connects Ledeč nad Sázavou with Sázava u Žďáru nad Sázavou.
History
The first written mention of Ostrov dates from 1408; at that time, tribute from Ostrov and Veliká to Ledeč Castle was mentioned. On 14 August 1870, the hill above Ostrov was renamed Deklarant. Local history also includes the “Ostrovský mlýn” mill, which was powered by the Nezdínský potok stream. In the mid-19th century, a small glass-grinding workshop was also in operation there.
Culture
At the second Traktoriáda on 28 September 2024, the competition course included a slalom, reversing, transporting a cup filled with water, a water trench and pulling a heavy tyre. At the eighth masked procession in 2025, Koblihy pastries and a warming drink were enjoyed before the procession through the village.
