Vez-Skala: Hotels and accommodation

The present-day Baroque church of “Nanebevzetí Panny Marie” in Skála was built in 1728 in place of an earlier wooden chapel. The rectory dates from 1787. Below the church, a monument to the soldiers who fell in the First World War stands on the slope; it was unveiled on 9 June 1930. A stone staircase was built in front of the church in 1864.

The nave of the church is rectangular on the outside and oval inside, with niches on the transverse and diagonal axes. A tower with chamfered corners stands in front of the western façade; the year 1728 is displayed above the façade.

The Baroque high altar dates from around 1740 and features twisted columns and four statues of angels venerating the Virgin Mary. The church also contains a Rococo pulpit and a Stations of the Cross by J. Vysekal from 1883.

A pilgrimage takes place every year at the church of “Nanebevzetí Panny Marie” on 15 August, the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Mass is celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays. The church has been protected as a historic monument since 1958.

Behind the church lies a former cemetery; at its far end, on the axis of the church, stands a mortuary chapel.
