Kámen U Pacova: Hotels and Accommodation

The originally Gothic Kámen Castle was founded at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries and named after the prominent rocky outcrop on which it was built. As a Hussite stronghold between Tábor and Pelhřimov, Kámen Castle played an important role.

Culture

Three guided tours are open to visitors at Kámen Castle: the Old Palace, Living in the 19th and Early 20th Centuries, and Motorcycles. The exhibition of historic motorcycles is one of the oldest specialized motorcycle exhibitions in the Czech Republic; the current collection also includes a 1910 touring motorcycle.

The Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows is also part of the town’s history. It is one of the most important Baroque religious buildings in the Pelhřimov area and was intended primarily as a representative family crypt for the Malovec family. An exceptionally valuable collection of Early Baroque furnishings has been preserved inside.

Nature

The park of Kámen Castle is open throughout the entire season and freely accessible to the public. It includes an alpine garden established on the castle’s rock massif. The grounds of Kámen Castle are also home to a Nootka cypress (Chamaecyparis nootkatensis) and a copper beech (Fagus sylvatica f. purpurea), which were designated memorial trees in 2001.

In the center of Kámen, below the castle grounds, stands the so-called Lípa v lípě. It is a linden tree growing within the remains of its original mother tree.

Trails

The red-marked hiking trail from Pacov to Kámen Castle connects Pacov railway station with Kámen Castle and passes through wooded and open landscape sections. For cyclists, Cycle Route 321 passes through Kámen on its route between Kamenice nad Lipou and Mezilesí.
