Mnich: Hotels and Accommodations

Mnich presents its history at several specific sites. The Church of St. John the Baptist is documented as having existed as early as 1359 and became a parish church in 1371. Several heavily damaged marble tomb slabs from historical burials have been preserved inside. A castle once stood on the site of present-day Mnich; it was fortified with walls, ramparts, and a moat, and the former local fortress was renovated in 1762 for use as a parish house.

Culture and Architectural History

The cultural center in Mnich was built between 1948 and 1950 according to a design by Jiří Kroha and was declared a cultural monument in the last quarter of 2020. Its design features textured plaster with horizontal grooves and brick chips. The façades also feature a figurative relief of a farming family and a colorful silhouette of a double bass.

Stage and Events

The MonAmour theater ensemble describes Mnich as its home venue and is dedicated exclusively to one-person theater. The event “Fotbal & Country Mnich” is listed for 2025 and 2026.

Memorial Sites

The Památník slovanského bratrství memorial commemorates 1,842 fallen soldiers and partisans in South Bohemia. It is registered as a protected cultural monument under registration number ÚSKP 32225/3–3155 and consists of a bronze group featuring a dying Czechoslovak partisan supported by two armed Red Army soldiers, as well as a granite obelisk.

The World War II memorial plaque on the house at Mnich 23 commemorates an unequal fight on the night of May 5–6, 1945, between Czech and Soviet partisans and an SS unit. The memorial to František Čábelka also stands at Mnich 23 and commemorates his death on May 6, 1945. In the center of Mnich stands the memorial to the fallen of World War I, bearing the dedication “PADLÝM SYNŮM VLASTI 1914–1918”.

Nature and Trails

In the vicinity of Mnich, the Stržená hráz natural monument can be reached on foot from Rosička or Nový Mnich, as well as by bicycle. A bicycle route to the natural monument leads via Rosička and Nový Mnich; before the crossroads, it branches onto an unmarked path. The Stržená hráz area contains a preserved complex of meadow and wetland communities with populations of important and specially protected species.
