Počátky has an urban heritage zone, designated in 1990, which primarily protects the historic town centre with its elongated square.

Culture and History

The urban heritage zone includes Baroque and Neoclassical town houses, as well as preserved parts of the original town structure.

The Počátky Town Museum opened to the public in 1893 and is considered the oldest publicly accessible museum in its region. In the “Bourgeois Room”, it displays furniture, valuable glass and porcelain objects, portraits of the Brdlík family, a tiled stove and children's toys.

The birthplace of the poet Otokar Březina in Počátky has been open to the public since 1949. The present-day High Baroque Church of St Catherine was built around 1730. Počátky also served as a filming location for scenes from “Cutting It Short”.

Getting Around

From Počátky, you can travel by car, bicycle or on foot along signposted routes. The “To the Springs of Počátky and the Surrounding Area” educational trail is also marked out in Počátky.

The healthy springs in the immediate vicinity of Počátky contributed to the establishment of the Svatá Kateřina water therapy and climatic spa.

The “Stone Circle of the Druids” is a unique replica of Stonehenge and a tourist attraction; it is located approximately 3.5 kilometres from Počátky.
