Drslavice: Culture, Traditions and Nature

In the center of Drslavice stands the Chapel of Our Lady of Svatý Hostýn. It is the most important cultural monument in Drslavice. For those interested in culture, the local history also offers an introduction through a former summer residence: from 1903, Count JUDr. Václav Kounic had Pepčín built as a summer residence in the Obora forest near Drslavice. The cadastral area of the municipality of Drslavice was once home to the Pepčín château; it was demolished in 1981, leaving only the clearing at its former site in the Obora forest.

The Drslavské léto project has been carried out in cooperation with local associations since 2015 and supports cultural, social, sporting and charitable events. Traditional Hody celebrations are among the customs maintained in Drslavice. A Fašank carnival procession is also maintained as a local tradition in Drslavice. A long-standing Easter tradition is also part of local customs: from Thursday to Saturday of Holy Week, boys walk through the village with Hrkávky rattles. Cultural life therefore includes both events and traditional seasonal customs.

Together with other municipalities, the municipality of Drslavice organizes a traditional New Year's Eve gathering for the whole family at Pepčín's former site in the Obora forest. Since 2018, a newly built recreational area has been taking shape at the former site of the Pepčín château. The TJ sports complex has rest areas and seating with refreshments. These three places and offerings each have their own focus, ranging from remembrance of Pepčín to a community event and time spent at the sports complex.

A pond in the Obora forest is home to rare amphibian species. The Terasy Natural Monument is one of the last refuges for endangered thermophilic plant species on the right-bank terraces of the Olšava River, as well as for the insect species associated with them. Kovářův žleb - Obora is an extensive, continuous complex of ecologically valuable Carpathian oak-hornbeam forests, basiphilous thermophilic oak forests, Pannonian oak-hornbeam forests and valley alder forests in an otherwise comparatively intensively managed landscape. For those interested in nature, the designated habitats thus range from ponds through river terraces to various forest communities.

A route to the Vrhové Steppe Reserve leads through the Terasy Natural Monument and along the retention basin and a group of ponds and pools on the Holomňa stream. Several cycling routes intersect in Drslavice. The route to the Vrhové Steppe Reserve and the cycling routes offer different ways to explore the landscape through its bodies of water, terraces and natural monuments.

A viticultural tradition in Drslavice has been documented since the 16th century. In 1900, Drslavice's vineyard area covered 12 hectares. Viticulture therefore provides another historical point of reference alongside the chapel, Pepčín and local traditions.
