Staré Hutě: Hotels between the Chřiby Valley, hiking trails and glassmaking history

In the immediate vicinity of Staré Hutě, about two kilometres to the northeast, lies the abundant Hladná voda spring. It is located near a hunting lodge of the same name. The cadastral area of Staré Hutě also includes the Buchlovský kámen rock formation, about 1.5 kilometres east along the yellow trail markers. It forms a partly wooded, flat ridge with an isolated 12-metre-high sandstone rock.

Several named routes run through or over Staré Hutě. The Velkomoravská pilgrimage route passes through the village, as does a green hiking trail of the KČT. For cyclists, the Jihlava–Český Těšín long-distance cycle route passes through Staré Hutě. Another cycling route is called “Z údolí Baťova kanálu na hřeben Chřibů” and runs via Břestek, Staré Hutě and Buchlovice. The hiking route “Procházka v Chřibech: kolem Břestecké skály, Buchlovského kamene i hradu Buchlov” leads from Břestek via Salaš and Staré Hutě to Buchlovice.

The history of the village is connected with the establishment of local glassworks: Staré Hutě was founded in this context at the beginning of the 18th century. A protected old small-leaved lime tree stands on the former glassworks site as a memorial tree. At the end of the 19th century, Staré Hutě was known for the production of mother-of-pearl goods. The village also has a chapel of the Virgin Mary dating from the second half of the 19th century.

In the immediate vicinity, about one kilometre east of Staré Hutě, lies the historic Zikmundův dvůr. The place is also called Zikmundov or Dvorek; horse riding is available there.
