Hotel in Záhorovice – Cultural Monuments and Modrá voda

Záhorovice reveals several facets that can be explored through its history, culture, water and trails. The town lies in the Olšava catchment area, and the Olšava River divides Záhorovice into two parts.

History

The first written mention of Záhorovice dates back to 1373. The transport routes through the town also have a long history: a road between Uherský Brod and Bojkovice, completed in 1837, runs through Záhorovice. In addition, a railway stop on the Vlárská dráha line from Brno to Trenčianská Teplá was established here. The line was put into operation on 4 October 1888.

Culture

At the northeastern edge of Záhorovice lies the plague cemetery, with approximately 65 graves of epidemic victims and a preserved sandstone cross dating from 1831. The plague cemetery, including the crucifix, was declared a cultural monument in 1994. Another protected religious site is the Boží muka in Záhorovice, which was declared a cultural monument in 1963.

The current condition of the Záhorovice bell tower, including its interior furnishings, dates from 1974, following the necessary demolition of a chapel at the upper end of the town. In the chapel inside the bell tower, a painting of Saint Bartholomew adorns the altar. The bell in the bell tower rings at noon and at 6 p.m.

Nature and Trails

Modrá voda is a flooded quarry that formed after the closure of the local quarries. It attracts tourists from the nearby area and farther afield; camping is possible at Modrá voda. A marked cycle route also runs through Záhorovice. Southeast of Záhorovice, a green-marked hiking trail leads through the forest to Modrá voda. On the way there lies the Studánka Kamínka spring, reconstructed in 1998.

Another spring is Záhorovicer Kyselka. Its flow rate is 9 liters per minute. The Záhorovice Kyselka spring is used by local residents and people from the surrounding area. The spring water is considered high-quality and safe.
