Prakšice between vineyards, forest valleys, and vibrant folklore

Prakšice lies in a valley surrounded by deep forests on two sides. Prakšice is situated on the banks of the Holomňa and Prakšický potok streams. The Prakšická vrchovina Nature Park, with its diverse flora and fauna, borders the area. Thus, Prakšice brings together a valley location, waterways, and a natural environment with a wealth of plant and animal life.

The first surviving written mention of Prakšice dates from 1141 and appears in a document issued by Jindřich Zdík, Bishop of Olomouc. Viticulture developed in Prakšice and continued during the 15th and 16th centuries. Before 1620, the village had 81 měřic of vineyard land. These 81 měřic of vineyard land are part of Prakšice’s viticultural history.

The historic Stará Hora wine-growing area is now known as Staré vinohrady. Later, vineyards were also planted in Nová hora; today, this area belongs to the village district of Vinohrady. The names Stará Hora, Staré vinohrady, Nová hora, and Vinohrady are therefore directly connected with different periods in the viticultural history of Prakšice.

The Church of Christ the King in Prakšice was solemnly consecrated on June 22, 1941. It was renovated between 1998 and 2001. Another important cultural feature is the Prakšické krojované hody s právem, which is part of a folklore tradition that remains vibrant in the municipality.

During the Pašovsko-prakšické hody, the costumed festival group took part in a procession on Sunday morning and attended Mass at the Church of Christ the King in Prakšice. Here, the church, traditional costumes, and procession come together in a specific sequence within the festival. Those interested in local history and regional traditions will therefore find several clearly distinct themes in Prakšice’s cultural life.

Prakšice has several water reservoirs. This helped revive the village’s historic tradition of pond management and fishing. Today, members of the local Rybářský spolek Holomňa take care of this tradition. The bodies of water thus represent both the local history of its waterways and a tradition that continues to be maintained.

For cyclists, Prakšice is connected to the surrounding area by a cycle path. Another form of movement takes center stage at the Prakšice motocross track. The site features changes in elevation, jumps, and banked curves. The track is used for motocross races and sporting events. For training, arrangements must be made by telephone with the operator before entering. The cycle path and motocross track thus represent two different aspects of the village: its connection to the surrounding area and the explicitly sports-oriented course.
