Veletiny: Vernacular Architecture, Wine Trails and Historical Heritage

There are seven crosses in the cadastral area of Veletiny. The newest cross stands beside a field path that climbs between the fields to the ridge between Veletiny and the Kojatínek forest. From the cross beside the field path near Kojatínek, there is a good panoramic view of Velký Lopeník, Velká Javořina, Buchlov and the hills above Provodov.

The Tvrz Veletiny fortress is also one of the village's historical landmarks. Remains of the oval fortification, discovered during archaeological investigations, have survived. The Tvrz Veletiny fortress was built by Záviš, known as Veletka of Veletiny (1365–1406).

In the Stará hora area, there are 16 wine huts dating from the mid-19th century. They are protected as a monument of vernacular architecture. Veletiny has also preserved the oldest typological form of the Búdy. The entire Búdy complex was declared a heritage reserve by the government of the Czech Republic in 1995.

The term Búdy refers to a clearly defined group of buildings within Veletiny. Together with the wine huts of Stará hora, this means that the connection between winemaking and the region's architectural form remains legible in the village landscape, without requiring any further classification.

Veletiny maintains the custom of Nošení Mařeny, which takes place regularly on Smrtná neděle Sunday. The Nové léto custom also takes place regularly in Veletiny on Smrtná neděle Sunday. The královničky procession follows on Whit Sunday.

These dates belong to the explicitly named customs of Veletiny and stand alongside the village's preserved architectural and historical heritage. Their names – Nošení Mařeny, Nové léto, Smrtná neděle and královničky – also preserve the linguistic character of the regional tradition.

The area of the wine-growing municipality of Veletiny extends at the foot of the slopes of the Hlucká pahorkatina hills. The Uherskohradišťská wine trail passes through Veletiny. In addition, a marked cycle path runs towards Vlčnov along the protected Veletiny vernacular architecture reserve.

The trails mentioned connect different local points of interest, without implying any particular length or further route. As an additional feature of the village, Veletiny offers the opportunity to refresh yourself at a local inn.
