Wesetin: Hotels and Accommodation

Wesetin combines urban culture, nature observation and several routes of varying lengths. The townscape can be explored through historic buildings, parks, viewpoints and educational trails.

Culture and History

Vsetín Castle was originally built as a Renaissance castle in the 17th century and later remodeled in the Classicist style. In its rooms, the permanent exhibition “Živá paměť regionu” uses modern technologies to convey the history, traditions and other special features of Wallachia.

The Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Vsetín was founded in 1683 and belongs to the post-White Mountain Baroque of the Vsetínsko region. It was created by remodeling a castle that was unfinished at the time. Among the preserved features are corner rondels with loopholes and the consoles of the former castle balcony. The Evangelical Church of the Lower Church District was built in 1782–1783 following the issuance of the Patent of Toleration.

The façade of the Občanská záložna in Vsetín features sgraffiti designed by Mikoláš Aleš.

Routes and Experiences

The 60-meter-high viewing point in the tower of Vsetín Castle offers a comprehensive view over Vsetín. Vsetín Observatory regularly holds observations of the daytime and nighttime sky as well as thematic lectures and discussion sessions.

It begins on the Bečva riverbank in Vsetín and leads through the Vršky-Díly Nature Monument. From the stop at the thirteenth and final station, bus routes 1 and 5 run back to the center.

For a shorter city tour, the approximately 2-kilometer-long, easy Městský okruh památkami Vsetína circular route is available. It leads to the city’s most historically, architecturally or culturally interesting buildings and is suitable for walkers. The Baťova naučná stezka educational trail is approximately 16 kilometers long and presents the natural and cultural attractions of this part of Vsacko at twelve stops.

The 3-kilometer-long, flat Cyklostezka Jasenice cycle path begins at the parking lot of Vsetín’s Kaufland and is also suitable for small children.
