Trails and Landscape
The Kelč educational trail comprises two circular routes that can be explored on foot or by bicycle. The short circular route leads through the town’s urban heritage conservation zone, also known as the historical protected zone. The long circular route runs along significant landscape features in the area surrounding the town.
Culture and History
The historical protected zone of Kelč encompasses the centre of the New Town as well as the Renaissance castle complex with a landscape park. Náměstí Square is also part of the town’s historical protected zone. The birth houses of the linguist and Slavist František Pastrnek and the Moravian Enlightenment figure and writer Tomáš Fryčaj stand on the square.
The fortress of Kelč was converted into a Renaissance castle in the 1580s. The castle is currently not open to the public. Another notable historic structure is the original stone bridge in Kelč. It dates from 1912, is decorated with four pylons and hemispheres, and is one of the few surviving concrete bridges in the region.
Church of St Catherine
The Church of St Catherine in Kelč has a documented medieval origin. The present church was built between 1776 and 1784. It serves for religious services and concerts and has been protected as a listed building since 10 February 1992.
Museum in Kelč
The Museum in Kelč is located in the former old school building at Kelč 290. It features the permanent exhibition “In the Footsteps of Kelč Pipe-Making”. The former old school building also houses a room honouring the Křička siblings and a permanent exhibition on pipe making.
Museum visits must be arranged exclusively by telephone and at least one day in advance.
Cycling Route through Kelč
The cycling tour “To Kelč Castle from Valmez” passes through Kelč and is suitable for e-bikes, gravel bikes, and mountain bikes. In Kelč, the tour includes a stop to visit the square.
