Březnice: Hotels, Nature and Culture

Březnice lies in the valley of the Březnice stream below the western peaks of the Vizovice Highlands. Meadows and mixed forests characterize a large part of the municipality, while the terrain is hilly and has almost no level areas. The locality therefore combines a clearly recognizable landscape with several natural and cultural sites.

Landscape and Nature

The Březnice stream rises in Březnice and has two officially recognized sources. The European protected site “Březnice u Zlína” is part of the Natura 2000 network and protects the snail species “vrkoč útlý”. In the immediate vicinity of Březnice, this European protected site takes the form of a meadow spring on the right bank of an unnamed right tributary of the Březnice.

The natural heritage also includes two trees officially designated as memorial trees on Kříby in the cadastral area of Březnice: the memorial pear tree “Hrušeň u Slováčků” received this designation on 29 January 2016, and the memorial service tree “Oskeruše u Janečků” on 18 July 2022. Both names and the respective dates are part of the local landscape, as are the meadows, mixed forests and distinctly hilly terrain.

Culture and History

The parish Church of St Bartholomew the Apostle is located in Březnice. The Church of St Bartholomew is a protected monument with a Late Gothic core and is considered one of the oldest churches in Moravia; the first records of it date from 1437. A heritage protection zone has been designated for House No. 21 in Březnice, including its shed and barn.

At the site of the former Březnický horní (Řihoškův) mlýn, a park-like area has been created on the site of the former collecting basin. The masonry remains still present at the former Březnický horní (Řihoškův) mlýn are probably not original. A resistance memorial was erected on Kříby in 1955 to commemorate the tragedy of the inhabitants of Březnice. The Peace Memorial Mound in Březnice on Kříby commemorates the victims of the Second World War and offers a viewpoint over the surrounding landscape.

Trails and Leisure

The open-air educational trail in Březnice leads through the municipality and includes ten questions; the answers form a puzzle at the end. In the immediate vicinity of Březnice, a forest educational trail to a bunker of the anti-fascist resistance provides access to the bunker in the municipal forest in the cadastral area of Bohuslavice u Zlína.

In the Filip district of Březnice, the Březnice Sports and Cultural Complex includes a multi-purpose court with a synthetic surface; it offers facilities for tennis, volleyball, basketball and small-sided football, as well as a children's playground.

Transport

Březnice is well served by buses, including at weekends. The locality lies on routes from Zlín to Uherské Hradiště, Uherský Brod and Luhačovice, as well as on long-distance routes to Slovakia. There is also a dedicated Zlín–Březnice route operated by ČSAD Vsetín.
