Hotels in Rudimov: Nature in the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area

Rudimov lies south of the picturesque Poolšaví, among wooded hills in the valley of the Třešňůvka stream, at an average elevation of 334 m. The entire cadastral area lies within the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area.

Nature

Extensively managed standard orchards are a defining feature of the White Carpathians landscape. They contain traditional regional fruit varieties adapted to the natural conditions. At the same time, the extensively managed orchards provide refuge for orchids, specialized insect populations and birds that have been displaced from intensively farmed agricultural landscapes.

A yellow-marked hiking trail connecting Slavičín and Bojkovice runs through the cadastral area of Rudimov. Cycling routes 5054 from Slavičín to Luhačovice and 5056 from Bojkovice to Luhačovice also pass through the area. The moderately difficult circular trail “Ze Slavičína na Petrůvku” is approximately 15 km long, has an elevation gain of about 238 m and leads around Rudimov.

At the entrance to Rudimov, behind the sports complex, there is a biotope, or alternatively a multi-purpose pool for swimming. A self-service buffet is available to visitors at the biotope.

History

Archaeological finds from the Eneolithic period, the Hallstatt period, the Celtic period and the early medieval period have been discovered in the cadastral area of Rudimov. The remains of the Slavic hillfort of Gradca lie in the Zachrástí–Ploštiny tract within the cadastral area of Rudimov. Protected burial mounds can also be found in the Gradca, Spalica and Paličky tracts.

The traditional craft of animal castration has been documented in Rudimov since 1545 and was practiced there by almost all adult men at the beginning of the 20th century. A second war memorial in Rudimov commemorates Romanian and Soviet soldiers who were killed in an artillery attack near the municipality during the Second World War.

Culture

The village’s landmarks include a wooden log-built bell tower dating from 1780, listed under number 2063, and a richly carved wooden cross. This cross was created in 1820 by a folk artist and is listed under number 2064.

The Rudimov memorial to local victims of the First World War is an artificially constructed, pyramid-shaped group of stones made from untreated sandstone blocks of various sizes. It includes a group of figures depicting a woman and a dying soldier.

Fruit processing is also part of the village’s traditional history. Numerous farmsteads in Rudimov had fruit dryers; dried fruit was exported from the village on a large scale, and povidl was cooked in several places. The Maso z lúky / Farma Rudimov shop in Rudimov sells meat, sausages, jerky, dried plums, pears, chutneys, sauces and other local products. The aviation museum in Rudimov houses a collection of aircraft and ship models. The aviation museum in Rudimov is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. in July and August.
