Ostrata combines a local history dating back to the Middle Ages with an unusual collection made of wood and a location at the foot of two hilly areas. The first written mention of Ostrata dates from 1391. At the same time, a stream flows through the village that was already mentioned in 1261.

Nature

Ostrata lies in gently rolling terrain at the foot of the Hostýn and Vizovice Hills. This landscape is also connected with regional cycling tourism: Ostrata is part of cycling tourism routes that lead from Zlín via Ostrata to other areas of the region.

The local surroundings also include the Ostrata Reservoir, a private fishing area between Hvozdná and Slušovice. The body of water has well-maintained, grassy banks. The precise use of the area remains shaped by its private status.

History

Historically, Ostrata belonged to the Lukov estate of the Lords of Šternberk. Until the end of feudalism, the village remained part of this domain. Ostrata's historic monuments include a stone cross created in 1837. Below Ostrata, in the direction of Hvozdná, there is also a terrazzo cross or wayside shrine.

The municipal symbols also preserve older traces: the municipal seal of Ostrata dates from the end of the 18th century, while the original seal was still in use in 1820. A war memorial that has been repaired and restored stands in the local park. Near Štípa, a windmill is protected as a cultural and technical monument of the Czech Republic.

Culture

A special attraction is the First Wooden ZOO in the RH complex in Ostrata. Its collection was opened to the public in 2015 in a garden of approximately one hectare in the RH complex. It consists predominantly of chainsaw carvings made from wood from nearly all tree species. The same complex also houses a small clock museum with individual admission.

The First Wooden ZOO includes Pohádkoland Lane with figures of a Minion, Křemílek, Bart Simpson and SpongeBob. An exhibition of toy cars was also prepared for the site. As part of an update for 2026, larger dinosaurs were added to Dinoland at the First Wooden ZOO in Ostrata.

At the First Wooden ZOO in Ostrata, children can pet, touch and photograph the labelled wooden animal figures. There are two places to sit and have a snack during a break.

The Juré Organic Farm is open to the public and sells organic products. These include dried fruit as well as various fruit spreads and jams. The Juré Organic Farm can be reached from Ostrata on foot or by bicycle; it also has a large children's playground.
