Ludkovice: Nature, Culture and Hotels
Ludkovice combines nature, water and culture. Rock formations, a reservoir, a cycling route and religious landmarks offer different ways to explore the locality. The focus is on clearly named sites, historical dates and recurring church events.
Nature
In terms of nature, Čertův kámen is the main attraction. The natural monument extends across the cadastral areas of Ludkovice and Provodov na Moravě. As a rock formation, Čertův kámen is 16 m long and lies on the northeastern slope of Rýsov. At Čertův kámen, the Tafoni-type rock cavities reach a height of up to 1.3 m. Thus, both the spatial extent of the natural monument and the distinctive forms of the rock are clearly identifiable features of the locality.
The water area includes the Ludkovice Reservoir, the Ludkovická Reservoir located in the cadastral area of Ludkovice. It lies above Ludkovice and is one of the smallest reservoirs in the entire Morava river basin. The catchment area is largely forested and has no concentrated development. The Ludkovická Reservoir supplies the surrounding area with drinking water and provides flood protection for municipalities along the Ludkovický Stream. The reservoir dam is 181 m long and rises more than 15 m above the valley floor.
History and Culture
The earliest written mention of Ludkovice dates back to 1412. Another historical landmark is the Boží muka near Obora, which dates from 1719. It stands at a crossroads of four roads and four cadastral areas and possesses considerable artistic value in addition to its historical significance.
Church services are held regularly in Ludkovice every second Wednesday. Midnight Masses are celebrated annually in Ludkovice at Christmas. In addition, a chapel was consecrated in Ludkovice on 28 October 1995.
Cycling and Summer
The “Severní toulky Luhačovským Zálesím” route is a 48 km MTB route with 1,200 m of elevation gain. On its return to Luhačovice, it passes through Ludkovice. Below the Ludkovická Reservoir, the sports and cultural area is used during the summer months. Thus, this aspect of the locality focuses both on the specific route and on the seasonal use of the area.
