Sehradice: Nature Park, Musical Tradition and Hotels

Sehradice lies in the valley of the Horní Olšava at an average elevation of 316 metres. The Vizovické vrchy Nature Park is located in the northern part of the town. Meadows and pastures make up the largest share of Sehradice’s agricultural land. The landscape of the White Carpathians features flower-rich meadows with solitary oaks, oak-hornbeam forests and mountain beech forests. In addition, Sehradice is known for growing plums and apples.

Culture and History

The history of the town is connected with a trade route: Sehradice was founded along a trade road leading from Trenčín through the Vlárský průsmyk pass to Olomouc. The town also has a direct connection to musical history. František Maňas was born in Sehradice and wrote more than 100 dance and light-entertainment compositions. Václav Maňas wrote more than 100 popular compositions for wind and universal orchestras. The Maňasovy Sehradice music festival is one of Sehradice’s cultural traditions.

In the vicinity of Sehradice, Sehrad Castle, also known as Engelsberk or Tetov, was built above Horní Lhota at the end of the 13th century. At the ruins of Sehrad Castle, the individual ramparts of the complex outer bailey, small sections of masonry and a rise where the tower once stood can be seen. There is also a cross in the centre of Sehradice, registered as an immovable cultural monument. The Municipality of Sehradice has digitised the Sehradice municipal memorial book from 1936.

Trails and Events

The Literárně-historické toulky Slavičínskem educational trail begins in Sehradice and ends in Luhačovice. It is intended for pedestrians and uses information boards. A blue-marked hiking trail also runs in the vicinity of Sehradice from a bus stop to the ruins of Sehrad Castle; the route is just under 2 km long.

Event dates are also part of the local cultural offering. In 2025, the Sehradský Gulášfest reached its third edition; for an admission fee, visitors could sample and rate all the goulash dishes on offer. The 27th edition of the Maňasovy Sehradice brass music festival was announced for 21 June 2026 at 15:00 in Sehradice.
