Slavičín: Culture, Cycling Routes and Piveček Forest Park

Slavičín can be explored through its history, landscape and opportunities for active recreation. The topics range from a 13th-century building and regional museum collections to viewpoints, cycling routes and freely accessible outdoor areas.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint Adalbert and Saint Cecilia is the oldest building in Slavičín and dates back to the 13th century. In 1897, it was completely rebuilt in the Baroque style. The Slavičín Town Museum presents the air battle over the White Carpathians on 29 August 1944 in a five-minute virtual reality experience. The museum also displays archaeological finds from the Slavičínsko region, dating from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages.

Another exhibition is dedicated to the region's traditional craft of “zvěroklestičství”, the castration of animals. Wichterle Castle has been listed as an immovable cultural monument since 1964; the historic gallery in the castle is freely accessible to the general public. The cemetery around the church contains the graves of approximately 28 American airmen who died in the air battle over the White Carpathians and were buried there on 31 August 1944. The educational cycling route “Letecká bitva Karpaty” leads to the cemetery in Slavičín; the Slavičín Town Museum is one of the stops on the route.

Landscape and Trails

Vyhlídka sv. Kryštofa is a viewpoint whose design was inspired by the forms of Gothic cathedrals, stained glass and the play of light. From there, you can see the landscape around Slavičín, including the Church of Saint Adalbert and Saint Cecilia and the chapel in Hrádek.

The moderately difficult, 15-kilometre circular route “Ze Slavičína na Petrůvku” leads from the centre of Slavičín via Piveček Forest Park to the viewpoints above Petrůvka and back. The circular route offers views of the White Carpathians. Cycle Route 5238 connects Slavičín and Luhačovice and offers views of Slavičín against the backdrop of the peaks of the White Carpathians. The different formats and lengths can be considered side by side when planning your own day.

Active Recreation and Leisure

Slavex Trails has four natural or lightly bike-park-style trails. Together, they are more than 3.5 kilometres long. Seasonally, Slavex Trails offers bike courses led by instructors as well as holiday camps for children.

Piveček Forest Park was established in 1936 as a recreational area for the residents of Slavičín, particularly employees of the Piveček family shoe factory. The park is freely accessible and features a pond, a playground and dozens of wooden sculptures. Piveček Forest Park also includes a large natural amphitheatre and a children's playground.

Slavičín's municipal outdoor swimming pool is located in a wooded setting near the castle park, sports stadium and ponds, and is generally open from June to September. It has a beach volleyball court for visitors.
