Provodov: Cultural Monuments, Castle Ruins and Hotels

Provodov is located in Luhačovické Zálesí and the Vizovice Highlands. Here, the hilly landscape with small forests, meadows and fields combines with an unusually dense succession of pilgrimage sites, cultural monuments and medieval castle ruins.

Landscape

The landscape around Provodov is characterised by gentle hills, small wooded areas, meadows and fields. Its location in Luhačovické Zálesí and the Vizovice Highlands provides the geographical setting for the area's historical and natural attractions.

Culture and History

The Panny Marie Sněžné Church near Provodov has been an important pilgrimage site in the region since the 18th century and is also a registered cultural monument of the Czech Republic. From May to September, the church can be visited with a guide: on Saturdays from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 16:00, and on Sundays from 12:00 to 14:00 and from 15:30 to 17:00. A guide is present during opening hours.

The Malenisko pilgrimage site is located on a slope of the Brda ridge in the Vizovice Highlands, about 1 kilometre southeast of Provodov. Next to the Malenisko church stands a chapel built in 1865, where visitors can drink from the local spring water; the spring is located beneath the church altar. A steep Stations of the Cross path leads from the chapel to the summit of the ridge.

South of Provodov, the ruins of Rýsov Castle are located on a spur. The castle complex dates from the 13th century. What remains are a neck ditch, a rampart and an acropolis with rocky cliffs bearing traces of the anchoring of wooden structures. The castle is mentioned in writing only once, in 1517; at that time, it was already described as abandoned.

Starý Světlov is a medieval castle ruin dating from the 14th century. Its complex includes a preserved core, remains of masonry structures, an outer bailey, extensive earthworks and an advance bastion. From the Panny Marie Sněžné Church, the castle ruin can be reached on foot via a green hiking trail and a forest path. The route is not suitable for prams.

Smaller architectural monuments are also part of the village landscape. Komora at house no. 38 is a two-storey masonry chamber with a wooden gallery. This type of building was once typical of residential houses in the Luhačovské Zálesí region. No. 38 is a registered cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Provodov village square is also home to a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1774, which is likewise registered as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

Nature

Čertův kámen is a natural rock formation with numerous indentations, grooves and cracks, as well as reddish-coloured areas. An information board at Čertův kámen provides information about the site and its legend.
