Újezd and Valašské Klobouky – Culture, Nature and Hotels

Culture

The parish church of Saint Nicholas in Újezd was built in 1844 and 1845 in the Empire or neoclassical style on the site of an older church erected around 1680. The present building therefore also points to the town’s older ecclesiastical history.

The ruins of the feudal seat of Hradištěk, which have survived to this day, include an almost square acropolis surrounded by an now-incomplete ring of moat and rampart. Since autumn 1999, the Hradištěk complex has been maintained in very good condition by the municipal office.

Local culture is also expressed through traditional customs. During the traditional Fašanky procession of the “babkovníci” in Újezd, houses are visited, and the event concludes with the burial of the bass. Christmas concerts were also traditionally held in Újezd at the end of the year. On December 18, 2011, the Valaška brass band performed in the church, and on December 21, 2014, the Túfaranka brass band performed there.

Nature

Újezdecký les consists of old orchards and meadows, pastures and woodland. Its landscape therefore includes various wooded and open areas grouped together in the locality under this name.

Újezdecký les provides suitable nesting and feeding opportunities for numerous bird species and is home to a diverse insect and amphibian population. In addition to the bird species mentioned, insects and amphibians are therefore also part of the wildlife described there.

Experiences

A traditional summer hiking trip leads from the forester’s lodge in Horní Lhota via the observation tower in Loučka to the outdoor swimming pool in Újezd. The route thus connects the three stated stops: the starting point at the forester’s lodge, the observation tower and the outdoor swimming pool as its destination.

Winter Sports

In 2023, the lighting of the ski slope at the Újezd u Valašských Klobouk ski resort was reconstructed to improve safety during evening skiing. The resort has a moderately difficult slope suitable for families with children, as well as daily skiing during the day and in the evening.
