Nature

In Ariogala, the Ariogala Botanical Reserve protects stands of mountain elm on the slopes of the Dubysa Valley. The surroundings of the Ariogalos šaltinėlis spring were landscaped in 1936 during the construction of the Žemaičių plentas road. The Gediminaičiai Pillars stand on the slope beside the Ariogalos šaltinėlis spring.

Culture and History

In the centre of Ariogala stands the two-towered neo-Baroque Basilica of St Michael the Archangel Church, built in 1939 on the foundations of a church that burned down in 1915, according to the 1926 design by the Swiss architect E. Peyrrio. The memorial of Ariogala’s former Jewish synagogue complex reconstructs part of the outline of the Great Synagogue as a symbol of the former ghetto.

Ariogala Dainų Slėnis is located in the valley of the Dubysa River. The traditional gathering “Laisvės ugnis – ateities kartoms” takes place every summer at Ariogala Dainų Slėnis. Both district-level and nationwide events are held at Ariogala Dainų Slėnis.

Getting Around

On Section 68 of the Padubysys–Ariogala–Kirkšnovė route, the surface is predominantly asphalt; smaller paths and roads run through the Dubysa Valley. Žalgirio Parkas is located in the wider regional surroundings of Ariogala.

A kayak rental service on the Dubysa offers individual routes from 5 to 50 km and asks guests to come to Ariogala for this purpose; those wishing to book a hotel in Ariogala can then continue their accommodation search.
