Belciugatele between Church, Archaeology and Waters

Belciugatele combines a village center with a distinctive church, archaeological traces along the Mostiștea and a recreational fishing venue at Candeasca. This makes it possible to consider culture, history and bodies of water as separate themes, without combining them into a single image of the village.

Culture

In the center of Belciugatele village, the parish church of Adormirea Maicii Domnului stands on the main road. Its location makes it a clear point of reference within the village. The interior and exterior paintings were renewed in 1998–1999 by the painter Duță Petre. Thus, both the visible design and the period in which it was renewed form part of the description of the church.

The building's form provides another distinct perspective: the church has a single-nave plan with a single tower above the naos. The renewed painting, floor plan and tower are different features. Anyone viewing the building can therefore distinguish between its artistic design, chronological classification and architectural structure.

History

Within the administrative area of Belciugatele, on the left bank of the Mostiștea, one kilometer south of Măriuța, traces of a settlement dating from the 4th century AD were discovered. This settlement was overlain by a Dridu-type settlement. The find thus links two superimposed settlement traces that do not belong to the same period.

Another historical point of reference is located at Matara, near the Mostiștea River north of the village of Mataraua in the commune of Belciugatele. A settlement from the La Tène period is located there. The site at Matara and the traces south of Măriuța differ both in location and in chronological classification. Together, they do not form a single excursion destination, but rather two separate historical references within the commune.

Landscape

The commune of Belciugatele lies in the contact zone between the Vlăsiei Plains to the west and the Mostiștea area to the east. This location describes the transition between two landscape regions. When placing the area in context, the western plain and the eastern Mostiștea area should therefore be considered separately.

Bodies of Water

The Valea Iazurilor recreational fishing venue (Candeasca Lake) is located in Candeasca, in the commune of Belciugatele. Candeasca Lakes comprises three fishponds. At Candeasca Lakes, two fishponds are available for fishing with the catch retained, and one for catch-and-release fishing. The number of ponds and the different fishing regulations are two separate details: three ponds in total and two different forms of fishing.

The Candeasca Lakes grounds include a gravel access road, customer parking, fishing spots with shelters and spots with huts. Dedicated barbecue areas, as well as electricity and lighting, are available throughout the pond grounds. The facility therefore describes both the areas available by the water and the amenities mentioned there, without allowing any further characteristics of the commune to be inferred.

Other destinations include Frăsinetu de Jos, Cuza Voda, Ciocănești, Budesti, Călăraşi and Olteniţa.
