Frăsinetu de Jos: Churches, History and the Mostiștea Valley

Frăsinetu de Jos is one of six villages in the municipality of Frăsinet. For these six villages, including Frăsinetu de Jos, the Mostiștea Valley forms the location and connecting axis linked by roads. The village is home to the parish church of the Dormition of the Mother of God, a cruciform brick building with three towers. The village, municipality and valley thus form the three spatial levels for placing the area in context.

Culture and History

The construction of a new church in Frăsinetu de Jos was completed in 1934. The village parish museum preserves older church objects. The local history also dates back to a document from 14 August 1597, in which Frăsinetu de Jos is documented. Until 1 January 1965, the village bore the former name Noua Văcărească. Thus, the building history, ecclesiastical objects, written mention and development of the name stand alongside one another as distinct historical references.

Geographical Location

The municipality of Frăsinet is crossed by the county road DJ303. To the south, it connects the municipality with Mânăstirea, where it ends at DN31. To the north, the connection runs via Valea Argovei, Gurbănești, Sărulești and Tămădău Mare to DN3. These road connections describe the municipality's location in southern and northern directions, while the Mostiștea Valley marks the internal connection between the six villages.

A road and a bridge were built to serve the village of Frăsinetu de Jos. The terrain spur was used as a source site for the construction. Thus, in addition to the route of the county road, the specific connection to the village is also part of the documented geographical development of the locality.

Culture and Nature

The archaeological site of Tăriceni lies on the northeastern edge of Tăriceni, on a terrace spur on the shore of Lake Mostiștea. In August 2001, the old church of the village of Tăriceni was reopened and converted into a monastic skete. Both places connect the landscape around Lake Mostiștea with distinct archaeological and ecclesiastical-historical references.

The Frăsinet Canal is considered a place for relaxing walks along its banks. Various bird species can be observed along the banks. The landscape also includes the protected area of Valea Mostiștea (ROSPA0105). It is crossed by the Transgaz pipeline, which runs near Frăsinetu de Jos. Thus, walks and birdwatching by the water are documented alongside the protected area and the pipeline running through it.
