Călărași: Museums, Danube Riverbank, Islands and Cycling Routes

Călărași is the starting point for five cycling tourism routes that explore the built and natural heritage of the surrounding area. For trip planning, cycling routes, museums, the Danube riverbank and islands are presented as clearly distinguishable themes alongside one another.

Culture

The Muzeul Municipal Călărași is located in a historic building constructed in 1886–1887 according to plans by the architect Ion Socolescu. The building was inaugurated as the museum's headquarters in September 2014. The Muzeul Municipal Călărași includes permanent exhibitions on “Tezaur”, “Evoluția comunităților umane la Dunărea de Jos” and “Gospodăria țărănească la Dunărea de Jos”.

The Muzeul Dunării de Jos is a museum in the immediate surroundings of Călăraşi. The Archaeology and Treasury section of the Muzeul Dunării de Jos is open Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 16:00 and Saturday and Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00; the last admission is at 15:30 on weekdays and at 16:30 on weekends.

The exhibition “Gospodăria țărănească la Dunărea de Jos” at the Muzeul Dunării de Jos in Călărași presents local occupations, customs and regional crafts such as weaving, pottery, woodworking and fishing.
