Beliş can be explored through four themes: mountain landscape, water, culture and regional cuisine. You have various ways to view the area – through its landscape features, a specific route, historical sites and activities on the water.

Nature and Landscape

The municipality of Beliş is located in the Apuseni Mountains at the foot of the Vlădeasa Mountains, in a landscape characterized by forests, lakes and alpine meadows. The municipality of Beliş covers part of the upper basin of the Someșul Cald near Apuseni Natural Park and is characterized by forests, alpine pastures and high-altitude plateaus.

Lake Beliș-Fântânele is an artificial reservoir at the confluence of the Gilău Mountains, the Vlădeasa Mountains and Muntele Mare. The Beliș-Fântânele tourist area lies on the shore of this lake.

Routes and Water

The main road connection to Beliş is via DJ 108C from Huedin through Călățele, connecting with DN1/E60. The Beliș–Dealu Botii route reaches a viewpoint over the Fântânele reservoir after approximately 7.5 kilometers. You can classify this approximate distance differently from an offering focused directly on an activity on the water.

Acvatic Performer offers guided kayak and paddleboard tours on Lake Beliș-Fântânele. In addition, stand-up paddleboard rentals are available at Lake Beliș-Fântânele. When planning, you can therefore distinguish between a route with a viewpoint, a guided tour and a rental service, without treating these offerings as the same type of activity.

Culture and History

In the center of BeliÅŸ stands the Monument to the Martyr Heroes of 1918. In the new village of BeliÅŸ, another monument to those killed in 1918 was erected in 1996.

The wooden church of Beliş is dedicated to the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel. Its exterior is clad in shingles, and its architecture has a ship-like shape. After the construction of the Fântânele-Beliș dam, the wooden church was moved from Giurcuța de Jos to Belișul Nou.

In dry summers, the ruins of the church of Giurcuța de Jos are visible when the lake’s water level is very low. Thus, one place connects both a relocated church building and the ruins of the former church site with the history of the lake.
