Petreștii de Jos – Nature, Trails and History

Turda Gorge is administratively part of the municipality of PetreÅŸtii de Jos. The area is a nature reserve of national interest and also a mixed nature reserve in IUCN Category IV.

Nature

Turda Gorge was formed by the erosion of Jurassic limestone by the Hășdate River. Around 50–60 caves, rock arches or niches are known in Turda Gorge. The approximate number describes the variety of known natural formations, while their formation explains the geological background of the gorge.
