Gilău can be explored through a notable historic site and its bodies of water. The Roman fort of Gilău is located in the dendrological park of Wass-Bánffy–Barcsay Castle on a plateau that dominates the centre of Gilău; at the same time, it lies at the confluence of the Someşul Mic and the Căpuşul stream.

Culture

Construction of a stone church began in Gilău in 1896; it was painted in 1936. A different period is represented by the Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God, “Adormirea Maicii Domnului”: it was built between 1983 and 1989. Thus, two churches with clearly different construction periods stand alongside each other in Gilău.

In the forest stands the Roman watchtower Turnul de epocă romană de la Gilău - Dealul Cetăţii, 2.2 km southwest of Gilău. The tower was directly connected to the auxiliary fort of Gilău and monitored both the fort and the road linking it to ancient Napoca.

The area around Gilău also includes Mânăstirea Floreşti Monastery, Biserica Finişel Church, Biserica Catolică Vlaha Catholic Church and Biserica Reformată Vlaha Reformed Church. Their names and denominations clearly distinguish the individual religious sites from one another.

Nature and Water

In the wider regional area around Gilău are the Vârful Peana peak and Muntele Agrişului mountain. The Vârful Ţâcluiul peak is also located in this wider regional area. Dealul Lunitie hill adds another landscape feature in the vicinity of Gilău.

Lacul Gilău lies upstream from the confluence of Someşul Cald and Someşul Rece. Lacul Gilău offers opportunities for sport fishing, and an extensive recreational complex is located on one of its shores. Bodies of water, hills, mountains and peaks therefore provide different spatial reference points for travel planning.

In Gilău, culture, bodies of water and the regional landscape can be considered as separate focal points. This allows travellers to arrange their personal priorities between history, proximity to water and a route limited to a particular season, without confusing the different spatial scales of the local surroundings and the wider region.

Other places for your regional travel planning include Floreşti, Moldovenești, Maia, Poieni, Luna De Sus, Valea Drăganului, Jucu de Sus and Săcuieu.

The Gilău–Roseşti–Mărişel–Uzina–Gilău route starts in Gilău and can be completed from March to October. Its first section follows the DJ107N uphill to Someşu Rece and runs alongside Lacul de Acumulare Gilău.

For hotels in Gilău, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions can provide a practical basis for comparison. These details make the timeframe, preferred room configuration and personal flexibility comparable, without reducing culture, water and landscape to a single aspect of travel. The travel dates define the timeframe, the room category describes the preferred configuration, and the cancellation conditions indicate how flexible the plans should remain. Together, these details can be reviewed separately and weighted according to personal priorities.
