In Târgovişte, architectural and museum history meet parks, leisure activities and destinations in the wider surrounding region. A historic landmark is the Ansamblul Monumental Curtea Domnească. The building complex was designed for the ruler, his family, the courtiers and the guards. The first documented mention of Curtea Domnească in Târgovişte dates from 1403. The Turnul Chindiei is an essential element of the fortifications of Curtea Domnească.

Historical Perspectives

The two museum buildings also connect different periods. The building of the Muzeul de Istorie was constructed between 1901 and 1902 as a courthouse. Its permanent exhibition traces the history of this region from the earliest human traces to the end of the First World War. The Muzeul de Artă was constructed between 1892 and 1894 as the seat of the prefecture of Dâmboviţa County. The council chamber of the Muzeul de Artă is decorated with murals featuring neoclassical, botanical and floral motifs with influences from the Italian Baroque.

Art and Remembrance

The Muzeul Vasile Blendea offers another perspective on collections. It includes sculptures, paintings, drawings, designs for monumental art, furniture, textiles, working materials, ceramics and personal belongings. The permanent exhibition of the Muzeul Vasile Blendea is housed in an 18th-century Kula house. Cultural, artistic, educational and scientific events regularly take place at Casa Romanței. Visitors can watch video recordings of the National Romance Festival “Crizantema de aur” there.

Parks and Activities

The Grădina Zoologică Târgovişte was relocated to Parcul Chindia between 1970 and 1972. The Aleea celor 33 de voievozi was also inaugurated in Parcul Chindia in 2006. Existing ruins in Parcul Mitropoliei were restored and enhanced; at the same time, the park was improved by expanding the green areas and rebuilding the fountains. Parcul UM Gară has a playground, a fitness area, an open-air library, walking paths and cycle paths.

The Complexul Turistic de Natație Târgovişte offers swimming, mini-football, tennis and basketball. Cultural highlights, parks and sporting activities can be considered separately for different days.

For a stay in Târgovişte, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions can be compared alongside the different thematic highlights. Curtea Domnească, museums, parks and sports facilities serve as separate points of reference for planning each day; the appropriate weighting depends on the trip planned in each case.
