Nature and Trails

In Burgfeld, also known as Câmpu Cetăţii, the Terra Siculorum section of the Via Transilvanica begins and crosses the Sovata–Praid depression. This section includes gentle hills, flowering meadows, dense forests and grazing land.

History and Culture

On a hilltop to the north, at the confluence of the Nirajul Mare and Nirajul Mic, lies the “Aşezarea Latene de la Câmpu Cetăţii - Cetate.” It is a Geto-Dacian settlement from the La Tène period, dating from the 1st century BC to the 1st century AD.

The surrounding wall forms an oval ring located approximately 15 metres below the summit. The settlement may have had two settlement phases: a Dacian phase and an early medieval phase. You can consider the different dates and architectural forms separately when comparing historical sites according to their classification.

South of Câmpu Cetăţii, in the forest on the summit of Dealul Săcădat between the Niraj Valley and the Săcădat Valley, lies the “Turnul de epocă romană de la Câmpu Cetăţii - Cetatea Săcădat.” It was part of the eastern line of the Roman limes in Dacia. The fortification from the Roman period dates from the 2nd to the 3rd century AD.

The fortification has an approximately rectangular ground plan, an earthwork measuring 27.5 × 26.5 metres with a rounded corner, and V-shaped defensive ditches.

Events and Regional Cuisine

Câmpu Cetăţii is the venue for Parada Baloanelor cu Aer Cald, an internationally recognized hot-air balloon event.

The trout farm in Câmpu Cetăţii was established around the 1930s. Câmpu Cetăţii has long been known for its fresh trout dishes.

The railway section between Sovata and Câmpu Cetăţii was restored in 2011 and is used for tourism purposes. During the summer season, tourists can travel 14 kilometres to Câmpu Cetăţii on the Mocănița.
