Natural Area and Orientation

Durău is one of the most important gateways to Ceahlău National Park. Mount Ceahlău is located in the vicinity of Durău. In Durău, rangers provide visitors with ongoing information and advice on route selection, trail conditions, weather conditions, destinations along the trails and the necessary equipment. For orientation, trail selection, trail conditions, weather and equipment are therefore part of a single consultation.

Park and Panorama

Durău Park amusement park is located at the foot of the Ceahlău Massif in the Durău resort. Trail No. 4 offers a panorama of the Durău resort and the Bistriței Mountains from Cabana Fântânele. The panorama is tied to Trail No. 4 and Cabana Fântânele.

Hike to Duruitoarea Waterfall

Duruitoarea Waterfall can be reached from the Durău resort via three marked hiking trails in approximately two hours. The approximate duration of two hours provides a timeframe for this hike, but remains an estimate.

Church and Artistic Design

The church of Mănăstirea Durău Monastery is a cross-shaped brick building with elements of Moldavian architecture from the 18th century. The interior of the church is decorated with encaustic painting. Students and graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts in Iași created the encaustic paintings under the guidance of N. Tonitza. Corneliu Baba was also among those involved. Inside the church, the encaustic painting complements the architecture as a distinct form of artistic design.

The Traditional Foundation

According to tradition and the history of the monastery, the first monastic settlement in Durău was founded in 1620 by the nun Marina. Marina was the daughter of a Moldavian voivode and the granddaughter of Vasile Lupu. Marina entered monastic life there together with two maids. Tradition associates Marina with the year 1620 and with Vasile Lupu. Two maids also entered monastic life with Marina.
