Săvinești: Terraces, Churches and Industrial History

Săvinești begins as a landscape: the terraces slope gently down from north to south. Within the commune, the relief consists predominantly of extensive, almost level terraces and is only slightly structured, with very few hills. The transition between the floodplains of the Bistriţa and Cracău rivers and the 12- and 35-metre terraces is gradual and without significant morphological breaks. The direction of the terrain and the elevation levels give the landscape two clearly recognizable features.

Geographical Setting

The Dealul Bălan hill lies in the immediate vicinity of Săvinești. In the wider regional area are the Mănăstire Bistriţa Monastery, Murgoci Mountain, Vârful Vadurile Mountain and Muntele Goşman Mountain. The immediate surroundings therefore include Dealul Bălan, while the three mountains and the monastery form a broader regional reference. This classification thus explicitly distinguishes between a nearby individual hill and several named landscape features, as well as a monastery in the wider regional area.

Culture and History

In the south of Săvinești stands the Sf. Voievozi Church on the second terrace of the Bistriţa River. It was consecrated on 27 September 1964, after residents of Săvineşti had contributed money, materials and voluntary labor for eleven years. Another ecclesiastical landmark is the Învierea Domnului Church, which was built in the 1820s from beams on a stone base. The two churches therefore differ both in their age and in their construction methods. At Sf. Voievozi, the residents’ long-standing communal contribution is also part of its recorded history, while Învierea Domnului is characterized by its older wooden construction and stone base.

Events

The Easter celebrations in Săvinești include local events with performances, markets and icon exhibitions. The Rural Arts Fest in Săvinești is designated as the “second edition.” The religious occasion, market activities, performances and icon exhibitions appear as distinct components of the local events. The Săvinești industrial platform was established in 1957 to produce synthetic yarns and fibers as well as chemical products.
