Discover Comarnic: Culture, Mountain Trails and Historic Houses

Comarnic is crossed by the DN1 national road, which connects Ploiești with Brașov. Along the main road are more than twenty listed or historic houses, built between 1878 and 1930. You can begin exploring from different points of interest: historic buildings, cultural sites, events, or trails with varying routes and levels of difficulty.

Culture and Events

In the Posada district, the Muzeul Cinegetic al Carpaților Posada is located in Martha Bibescu Castle in Posada-Comarnic. The museum was founded in 1996 as a department of the Muzeul Național Peleș and is situated on the left bank of the Prahova River along the DN1, approximately 4 km from Sinaia.

The Lespezi Hermitage near Posada is a monument of 17th-century Romanian feudal art; its murals were painted by Pârvu Mutu. It is located in a forest at the foot of Pleșuva Mică on the left bank of the Prahova River. In the Vatra Sat district, the Biserica Sfântul Nicolae was built in 1905 in the Byzantine style, with three towers. Its iconostasis was donated by Gheorghe Valentin Bibescu and his wife, Martha Bibescu.

The Biblioteca din pădure is a library located in a forest, where the literary project “Proiectul Cărților Călătoare” enables the free exchange of books. The Festivalul Drapelului takes place in Comarnic annually or in consecutive years as a cultural event and is dedicated to the Romanian national flag, Romanian values, national folklore and music. At the initiative of the mayor of Comarnic, several people climb to the summit of Pleșuva every year to raise the Romanian flag there once again.

The Festivalul Pleșuva takes place on 14 and 15 August at the foot of Mount Pleșuva near Canton Mezdrea and features live electronic music as well as folk music.

Mountain Trails and Landscape

The route from Comarnic via Ghioșeștiul de Sus to Vârful Pleșuva runs north of the city on the left bank of the Prahova River. It is initially easier and becomes quite steep toward the summit. In good visibility, the route offers views across the entire Prahova Valley as far as Câmpina and onward toward Ploiești.

Comarnic serves as a starting point for numerous mountain biking routes connected to Valea Doftanei. There are several mountain trails in the surrounding area that can be walked and completed as out-and-back routes within a few hours. For day planning, information on elevation gain, trail length and duration helps compare different activities without implying any ranking.

Cascada Posada is located in Valea Conciului in Comarnic, at the exit from the city toward Sinaia. The unmarked walking trail, approximately three kilometres long, begins at the DN1 on Strada Podu lui Neag, crosses the railway line and follows the water.
