In Slănic, salt history comes first: salt has been extracted at Salina Slănic Prahova for more than three centuries.

Salt History

Visitors reach Mina Unirea by minibus, descending to a depth of 208 m. Mina Unirea has 14 chambers with a trapezoidal profile and an area of approximately 80,000 m².

Mina Unirea has sports fields, children's play areas, a trampoline, go-kart tracks, table tennis, billiards, air hockey and mini-golf. For your own planning, these details can be read according to scale and type of activity: the depth and approximate total area describe the spatial framework, the number of chambers describes the layout, while the facilities name different activities available inside the mine. This allows you to distinguish in advance whether you mainly want to explore the spaces or combine exploration with activities. The dimensions and the number of chambers provide a different point of reference from the facilities: they describe the site's scale and layout, while sports, games and skill-based activities identify different ways of using it. For a visit, these two levels can therefore be weighed separately, without equating the spatial description with the list of facilities.

When choosing a hotel in Slănic, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions can be viewed side by side on the respective offer pages. The planned length of stay is a separate criterion; cultural and landscape highlights can be weighted independently. This allows accommodation details and the thematic selection for your stay to be compared independently of one another.

Culture

The Muzeul Sării is housed in Casa Cămărăşiei, a historic monument and architectural monument dating from the 18th century. The museum presents significant aspects of the history of salt extraction and salt processing.

Since 15 March 2018, the permanent exhibition at the Muzeul Sării has included a virtual journey through salt mines from the late 18th century, experienced with VR glasses and an electronically automated mining cart with four seats.

Mina Unirea at Salina Slănic Prahova contains a bust of Burebista carved in salt, as well as salt sculptures of Decebal and Trajan in the “Sala Genezei”, surrounded by elements characteristic of the Dacian and Roman peoples.

When planning a cultural day, you can treat historic architecture, salt history, virtual representation and sculptures as separate focal points.

For further travel planning, you can also open these destinations: Câmpina, Poiana Câmpina, Berceni, Băneşti, Băicoi, Surani, Homorâciu and Drăgăneasa.

Landscape

Muntele de sare is a natural monument consisting of an exposed salt massif. Inside Muntele de sare lies a former salt mine filled with water, which the locals call Grota Miresei.

Baia Verde is located near the saltworks and is a complex of three salt lakes—the upper, middle and lower lakes. The three names help distinguish the individual bodies of water within the complex.

Baia Baciului is one of the salt lakes of Slănic that were created for balneological purposes.
