History on Dealul Băneștilor

It includes the 18th-century Adormirea Maicii Domnului wooden church, which was moved here from Gâltofani in 1973. The complex also includes the Bălceștilor manor house, a historic monument from the 19th and 20th centuries.

The collections of the museum complex comprise more than 12,500 cultural and cultural heritage objects. The collections displayed in the manor house convey the atmosphere of the period and depict the Romanian Revolution of 1848. Notable Figures and Memories of 1821

Petrache Poenaru was born on January 10, 1799, in Bănești, Vâlcea County. On May 25, 1827, he received French patent 3208 for a fountain pen that supplied itself with ink. Poenaru spent his childhood at the Bănești manor house; there, he was tasked with warning of attacks by the Arnăuți from the bell tower.

During the revolutionary movement of 1821, the Otetelișanu family withdrew to the manor house of Bănești-Vâlcea, not far from the village of Otetelișu. During the uprising, the manor house was attacked by insurgent Arnăuți under the command of the captains Iova and Ineciu. The years and locations mentioned connect the local history with Poenaru’s biography and the political unrest of that period.

The DJ 678A county road connects the municipality of Nicolae Bălcescu with the European road E81 via Milcoiu and Galicea. The Nicolae Bălcescu Museum Complex is located above the Valea Topologului valley.
