Saint George Church in Gura Văii is listed as a historic monument under LMI code VL-II-a-B-09780 and dates from 1758.

Culture

It was founded in 1758 by Pârcălab Gheorghe of Bogdănești. The interior paintings of Saint George Church are attributed to the painters Grigore, Pană, Gheorghe and Radu and date from 1759. A portrait ensemble is located on the southern façade of the village church. The painting complex of Gura Văii is considered one of the masterpieces of Romanian painting. A memorial cross dedicated to the war heroes stands in front of the church. In the wider regional area around Gura Văii, Frăsinei Monastery still preserves the monastic institutions and the vow of Saint Hierarch Calinic. Thus, the church brings together architectural history, painting, a memorial monument and a connection to a nearby monastery, without these elements conveying the same historical statement.
