The “Instrumentum Excellens” exhibition at the Podpoľanie Museum presents Slovak folk musical instruments with interactive and educational elements. In the museum courtyard, authentic carved wooden crosses from Detva featuring traditional motifs from the Podpoľanie region are on display.
The Kalamárka archaeological site in Detva preserves the remains of fortifications and a water cistern. The gate at the Dianiškov House and the associated folk dwelling are listed in the Register of National Cultural Monuments of Slovakia. Vígľaš Castle Vígľaš is designated as a cultural monument in the municipality of Vígľaš in Detva District.
The Fujara has been recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

Regional Traditions
TIK Detva offers an experience package that combines visits to sights in Detva with tastings of regional products and creative workshops with traditional craftspeople. The first bryndza cheese dairy in Slovakia was founded at the Vagač House in Detva in the 19th century.
The “Ovce moje, ovce…” exhibition at the Podpoľanie Museum covers shepherding and Wallachian traditions, sheep farming, milk production, and the production of bryndza in Podpoľanie. TIK Detva also offers guided tours of the town and its surroundings, including Kalamárka and Poľana, with certified guides in Slovak, English, and French.
Nature
Melichova skala is a protected natural monument above Skliarovo: a roughly 30-meter-high column-like rock formation that is the remnant of the front of a lava flow. It can be reached via a hiking trail from the Skliarovo district, at the Murínovci stop.
Poľana is the highest and best-preserved volcanic mountain range in Slovakia; its caldera is approximately 6 kilometers wide and 800 meters deep.
Trails and Activities
The marked cycling network in the Detva area includes the Rudohorská Cyclical Route, the Hontianská Cyclical Route, the Novohradská Cyclical Route, and the Route Around Poľana.
In summer, Košútka Park becomes an adventure park with a 455-meter-long zipline and a bicycle downhill track. There are numerous hiking and cycling trails around Košútka Park.
The Mikuláš Esterházy educational trail can be walked or cycled; some sections can also be traveled by car. The approximately five-kilometer-long Mikuláš Esterházy educational trail was opened in Detvianska Huta in Detva District. Several stations offer panoramic views of Poľana, the Kremnica Mountains, and part of the Štiavnica Mountains. Detvianska Huta also has the “Za cestou skla” educational trail.
Events
The Folklórne slávnosti pod Poľanou festival takes place every year in Detva and attracts many visitors. Approximately 1,500 participants come to Detva for Folklórne slávnosti pod Poľanou.
During the Dni mesta Detva, the historic partisan mobilization is commemorated every year.
