Litava: Hotels, Church and Horseback Riding

Litava is a place with religious, landscape-related and culinary connections. Different facets become visible in buildings, works of art, nature-based activities and crafts.

Culture

The Roman Catholic church in Litava is dedicated to Saint Margaret of Antioch. It stands partly on the foundations of a Romanesque chapel. A Gothic section was built on these foundations between 1320 and 1340. The furnishings include a Gothic stone baptismal font from the 14th century; its Baroque wooden cover dates from the 18th century.

The church also contains a late Baroque altarpiece of Saint Margaret, an oil painting on canvas from the end of the 18th century. A stone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands in the center of Litava. The Calvary ensemble in Litava was built in 1807 in the folk Baroque style. Wooden crosses stand on Skalica and in the cemetery in Litava.

Litava therefore brings together several different forms of religious design: the architectural traces at the church, its furnishings, the statue in the center of the village and the independent Calvary ensemble. This picture is complemented by the wooden crosses on Skalica and at the cemetery. The places and works mentioned date from different periods and also differ in their materials and execution.

Nature and Horseback Riding

Within the Krupinská planina, the cadastral area of Litava belongs to the low mountain ranges.

Ranč u Ňuňa offers horseback rides through the surrounding countryside. The riding activities are available both to overnight guests and to guests who are not staying overnight.

The landscape information and the offer from Ranč u Ňuňa represent two different aspects of a stay: on the one hand, the cadastral area of Litava is geographically situated within the Krupinská planina; on the other hand, the horseback rides offered lead into the surrounding countryside. It is expressly not necessary to stay overnight in the area in order to use the riding activities.

Culinary Delights and Crafts

The Litavský klobásový festival has been held regularly since 2013. At the festival, visitors can sample lamb, game and pork goulash, as well as fried sausage. Traditional and unconventional handicraft products, spices, toys and sweets are also offered.

The festival thus combines food and goods from different areas. In addition to the goulash varieties mentioned and the fried sausage, the offerings also include spices and sweets. The handicraft side ranges from traditional to unconventional products and also includes toys. The event, held regularly since 2013, is therefore associated with both culinary and craft offerings.
