Hontianske Nemce lies in the valley of the Štiavnica River, in front of the Štiavnické vrchy, the young volcanic mountains of the Slovak Central Mountains, and the Krupinská planina. The village is also home to sacred buildings and rural traditions.

Culture

The parish church dedicated to Saint Martin was built as a three-nave Romanesque basilica in the first half of the 13th century. St. Martin’s Church is surrounded by a fortified wall. It later acquired Gothic elements; the chancel and sacristy were built in the Renaissance style, while the tower is Baroque.

The Mariánsky stĺp stands in a park. The monument dates from the second half of the 18th century and was designed in the Rococo style. A statue of the Madonna, Mary Help of Christians, stands on the Mariánsky stĺp; it was renovated in 1899.

The Súsošie Kalvária is located next to the church cemetery. The complex dates from the first half of the 19th century and combines Classical and Baroque elements. It consists of five freestanding sculptures: three crosses with the Crucified figures, as well as statues of the Virgin Mary and Saint John the Evangelist.

In the Vinice district stands the Church of Saint Urban and Saint Donat, which underwent extensive Baroque restoration in the late 17th or early 18th century. Rural traditions also include the Nemčianske fašiangy, which are regarded as a symbol of joy and abundance. The Nemčianske fašiangy 2025 featured a cheerful procession through the village with accordion music, singing and music.
