Bátorová: Churches, Karikáš and Living Folklore
Culture
Bátorová’s cultural identity is closely associated with the Agačinka folklore group. It was established at the end of November 1973 in connection with the local organization of the Slovak Women’s Union. The group has also appeared publicly in more recent times: on August 17, 2024, Agačinka from Bátorová performed at the Hontianska paráda folklore festival in Hrušov, presenting the program “šúpanie kukurice”. In 2023, the group also released its first CD, titled “Bátorovská agačinka zelená sa”.
History
Several structures give Bátorová a clearly recognizable historical character. The Evangelical Church of Bátorová was converted from a chapel built in 1903. The Roman Catholic church was created in 1966–1967 by converting the chapel and family crypt of the Blaškovičovci, dating from 1870. The bell tower is also part of the built heritage and is considered the oldest structure in Bátorová. It contains a Baroque bell from 1740. Thus, the churches and bell tower bring different construction phases and years directly together.
Nature
Bátorová’s surrounding landscape also includes several specifically identified destinations. A considerable part of the Nenince reservoir lies within the cadastral territory of Bátorová. The reservoir is well stocked with freshwater fish and attracts anglers from the entire surrounding area. Bátorová is also home to the Karikáš pheasantry, which is associated with recreational and tourism opportunities. This should be distinguished from the Karikáš natural pond in Bátorová, which is likewise associated with recreational opportunities. The two Karikáš locations therefore belong to different described areas: a pheasantry and a natural pond.
Municipality and Events
The activities mentioned in the municipality include a walk to the oldest oak tree. It took place in Bátorová on May 1, 2024. The third edition of “Bátorovská vareška” was also announced for July 11, 2026, as the Municipality Day. This date is therefore presented as an announced future event, not as an event that has already taken place.
Local Orientation
Two specific locations have been identified for information displays in the village. In 2023, a wooden information board was installed at the bus stop in the parking area in Bátorová. In 2024, another notice board was added on the grounds of the Bátorová municipal office. The two boards are therefore associated with different years and locations.
