Obeckov can first be understood through its preserved buildings: farmhouses from the 19th and 20th centuries have survived together with agricultural outbuildings. These rural buildings provide a tangible way to explore the visible traces of the village and mark the beginning of a local history that is also reflected in its churches, historical milestones and landscape.

Culture and History

The Roman Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist in Obeckov is a Neoclassical church built in 1894. It is also a single-nave building with a polygonal presbytery. Obeckov is also home to an Evangelical church, built in 1908. A wooden bell tower stands next to it. The two religious buildings are therefore each defined by their denomination and year of construction; in the case of the Catholic church, its distinctive floor plan is an additional feature.

Obeckov has been mentioned since 1323 under the name Abichk. From 1554 to 1593, Obeckov was occupied by the Turks. The village’s history thus encompasses both an early recorded form of its name and a precisely defined period of occupation.

Agriculture and Viticulture

In the past, Obeckov had an agricultural and viticultural character. Today, agricultural production and viticulture predominate in Obeckov. The change is thus explicitly framed by the difference in time between its former character and what predominates today.

A direct connection to this local focus is offered by the Novohradfruit family farm in Obeckov, where you can pick fresh fruit yourself directly in the field. The place where the picking takes place and the fact that visitors pick the fruit themselves are explicitly part of this offering.

Landscape

Obeckov lies in the Ipeľ Basin, in a broad valley of the Plachtinský Stream. The hilly terrain with flat ridges consists of young Tertiary deposits. Acacia and oak groves occur only on the steeper slopes of Obeckov’s cadastral area. This describes the village in terms of its valley location, terrain, geological substratum and woodland limited to specific slopes.

Accommodation

Also pay attention to which services are included, what components make up the total amount and which booking or cancellation conditions apply. Such a comparison remains based on the conditions stated for each individual offer. This allows you to place the points relevant to your stay directly side by side and make your decision on a comprehensible basis. Especially when working with different travel budgets, it is worth considering not only the final price but also included services and possible additional costs. Also check the exact location details, the stated type of accommodation and the occupancy. You can likewise check whether meals or other services are included in the price or charged separately. With several offers, these fields provide an objective basis for comparison without presupposing any particular conditions. In addition, pay attention to the period for which the displayed total amount applies and whether the cancellation conditions are clearly stated.
