Kamenné Kosihy: St. Martin's Church, Village History and Landscape

Kamenné Kosihy reveals its history through St. Martin's Church and preserved traces of village life. The Roman Catholic church was built in 1824 in the Classicist style. It stands on a hill in the village centre on the main road and has a large altarpiece measuring 2 m × 3 m, depicting its patron saint, St. Martin.

Culture and History

The written history of Kamenné Kosihy dates back to 1135: since that time, the village has been documented as property of the monastery in Bzovík. Another memorial was created in 2005, when the municipality had a plaque erected in memory of a Keszi gathering. The village's built heritage also preserves historical connections. In Kamenné Kosihy, farmhouses from the 19th and the first half of the 20th century, together with agricultural outbuildings, have been preserved. The former manor house of the Lipcsei landowning family stood next to today's cultural centre. The old, well-preserved parish house of Kőkeszi is also still standing today.

Landscape

Kamenné Kosihy lies in a flat valley of the Studienka stream. The municipality's territory includes unforested hilly land with flat, dissected ridges. The geological structure is also specifically described: the surface of the municipal territory consists of deposits from the younger Tertiary.

Memorial Sites

Several places in the municipality preserve names and religious memories. A white marble slab marks the grave of Lipcsey Sándor. The New Cemetery, established in the northwestern part of the municipality, has a central cross. A black marble obelisk commemorating the priest Fodor Jenő (1867–1927) stands in the new, or upper, cemetery. The obelisk is decorated with a cross, a chalice, a book, a stole, a head of Christ and floral motifs.

Culture and Events

The residents of Kamenné Kosihy worked in agriculture, viticulture and fruit growing. These fields of activity are part of the village's traditional history, as are the preserved farmhouses with their agricultural outbuildings. A contemporary event is the Festival palóckych jedál, held in Kamenné Kosihy on 20 July 2024 and described as traditional. Competitors from Hungary also took part. An all-day adoration is also scheduled for 26 April in St. Martin's Church in Kamenné Kosihy.
