Culture

The Evangelical Church in Veľký Krtíš was founded around 1635 and is a national cultural monument. It has original interior furnishings that have not been compromised by renovations.

Kaštieľ Viliama Sebastianiho was originally built as a manor house for the Ambrózy family and is a Renaissance building dating from the 17th century. From 1850, the Sebastiani family owned the manor house. Another chapter in the town's history is represented by the Banícky kombajn monument. It was unveiled on 9 September 2005 and commemorates the development of mining as well as miners who died at work in the mining industry or lost their health as a result. The Hontiansko-novohradská Library and the Municipal Cultural Centre are located in the cultural centre. A cinema was also established there, which also served as a theatre and concert hall.

Landscape

The settlement of Veľký Krtíš developed in a flat valley of the Krtíš stream. The northern part of the cadastral area extends into the foothills of the Krupinská planina, which transition into the lower hilly landscapes of the Ipeľská kotlina. Thus, a valley, the foothills of the upland and lower hilly landscapes meet within the area.

Oak, beech and acacia forests lie in the northeastern part of the cadastral area of Veľký Krtíš.
