Dolná Strehová: Hotels, the Madách Manor House and Thermal Water
Imre Madách’s manor house gives Dolná Strehová a distinctive literary-historical connection. The building houses a literary-historical exhibition in 11 halls about Imre Madách and his work “The Tragedy of Man”. The manor house itself is a building erected at the end of the 18th century in the Rococo-Classicist style, with a well-preserved exterior and interior. Imre Madách’s grave is located in the park next to the manor house.
Culture
Imre Madách’s manor house also has a visitor centre with a museum education animator, a small stage and a conference room. On request at the ticket office, the Slovak National Museum can arrange step-free access there. Exhibition rooms, educational programmes and the architectural history of the house thus form part of a shared cultural site.
The Evangelical Church of Dolná Strehová was built in 1652. Its defensive wall with loopholes has been preserved in the side walls to this day. The church contains a carved Renaissance wooden altar with seven biblical oil paintings. Another connection to literature is “Madáchova Strehová”, a poetry recitation competition.
Landscape
There are thermal mineral springs in the cadastral area of Dolná Strehová. At the same time, the cadastral area is characterised by hilly terrain with flat, dissected ridges formed from Young Tertiary, partly tuffaceous deposits. Oak and black locust trees grow on steeper slopes. This gives the landscape a clearly recognisable geological and wooded character.
The 332-metre-high Strážna hora hill lies on the southern boundary of the cadastral area of Dolná Strehová. It offers a good view of the Ipeľ.
Thermal Water
Aquatermal Strehová operates year-round. Kupko Strehová Aquatermal offers eight pools with thermal water. The thermal water for the pools at Kupko Strehová Aquatermal is supplied from three boreholes and emerges at 36°C.
