Bacúrov brings together geological features and expansive landscapes. The area includes an extensive basalt flow, andesites, and volcanic pyroclastics. Its elevated location offers views northwards over the Zvolenská kotlina and the Kremnické pohorie, and southwards over the Pliešovská kotlina. The surroundings are characterised by fields, meadows, and surrounding mountains; the wildlife includes deer and fallow deer, among other species. West of Bacúrov, trees more than a hundred years old grow in the Štiavnické vrchy Protected Landscape Area.

Landscape and Water

Bacúrov also includes the Pleso reservoir. It is a water reservoir that serves as a water source in the event of a fire and has been stocked with fish.

Hiking to Zvolen

Bacúrov is also connected with Zvolen as a stage destination. The 7th stage of the Barborská cesta runs from Bacúrov to Zvolen. The hiking stage leads via Ostrá Lúka along the Hron River to Pustý hrad and onwards into the centre of Zvolen. Its route therefore connects Bacúrov, Ostrá Lúka, the Hron, Pustý hrad, and the centre of Zvolen in a defined sequence.

Culture and History

Bacúrov preserves original stone houses in the style of folk architecture. This villagescape is complemented by a wooden bell tower, built at the end of the 19th century and declared a cultural monument on 29 April 1998. The buildings thus represent different periods and forms of local architecture, without their functions being equated.

The Church of St Simon and St Jude is among the village's religious buildings. It is registered in the Central Register of the Slovak Monuments Fund under number 1081/0. The church is in good condition, continues to be used for its religious purpose, and stands on a hill in the northern part of the municipality of Bacúrov.

The former way of life and means of employment also form part of the village's history. Historically, the inhabitants of Bacúrov engaged in forestry work as well as agriculture. Together with the original stone houses, the bell tower, and the Church of St Simon and St Jude, this creates a picture in which folk architecture, religious use, and historical employment exist side by side.
