Ivanka pri Dunaji combines a Rococo manor house, Baroque sacred architecture, events with regional ties and designated cycling routes. The various local highlights range from the history of the Grassalkovich family to a park next to the railway station and a short route to the M. R. Štefánik Mound.

Culture and History

The manor house in Ivanka pri Dunaji was built in the Rococo style in the third quarter of the 18th century for the Grassalkovich family. It was originally surrounded by an extensive French park. The Baroque Church of St. John the Baptist, dating from 1770 to 1772, is also part of the town’s historical character. In front of the church stand Baroque-Classical statues of Saint Donatus and Saint Florian.

These statues probably originally lined the former road between the manor houses of Ivanka pri Dunaji and Bernolákovo, which was called „Cesta lásky“. A celebration with Holy Mass is traditionally held in the park next to the manor house on the feast of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. The Centre for Spirituality also organizes lectures, concerts and recitations for the general public in Ivanka pri Dunaji.

Landscape

Geographically, Ivanka pri Dunaji lies in the western part of the Danubian Lowland. The town is situated on a low river terrace between the branches of the Little Danube. Its location is therefore characterized by the river landscape of the Danubian Lowland and its distinctive position between the river branches.
